Oddendale Stone Circle

Oddendale Stone Circle is a Neolithic-to-Bronze Age concentric stone circle near Shap in Cumbria, the finest of the Crosby Ravensworth circles. It comprises an outer ring of 34 Shap granite boulders (27.1 m diameter) and an inner ring of 23 stones (7.4 m diameter) forming a kerb around a low cairn. Excavations in 1997 revealed that the stone circles replaced two earlier concentric rings of oak wooden posts dating to c. 2872-2350 BC, making it one of only 15 concentric stone circles identified in England. Evidence of burning was found in the central cairn, with a possible cist at its center.
