Verterae

Verterae was a Roman fort located in what is now Brough, Cumbria, England[1]. The fortress was occupied from the 1st through the 5th century AD, protecting a key Roman road through the region[1]. In the 11th century, Norman builders constructed Brough Castle on part of the Roman site[1]. Archaeological excavations occurred during the 20th century, and the site is now protected under UK law[1].
