Gamelands Stone Circle

Prehistoric embanked stone circle at the foot of Knott Scar near Orton in Cumbria, England, dating from the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age (c. 2900-1600 BC). The largest stone circle in Cumbria, it forms a flattened oval approximately 45 by 38 metres with around 40 recumbent stones, all of local Shap pink granite except one of limestone. A community archaeology project identified remnants of the monument's former bank and a palaeochannel running through the circle. It is the only complete example of an embanked stone circle in Cumbria and a designated Scheduled Monument.
