Mitchell's Fold Stone Circle

Mitchell's Fold is a Bronze Age stone circle on Stapeley Hill in southwest Shropshire, England, standing at 330 metres elevation. Built around 2000-1400 BC using dolerite stones from the nearby hill, the circle was originally 27 metres in diameter with approximately 30 stones, of which 15 survive. The name may derive from Old English 'micel' meaning 'big'. Part of a rich prehistoric landscape including two other stone circles, a long barrow, and numerous cairns, it lies near the important Bronze Age axe factory at Cwm Mawr. The site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument in the guardianship of English Heritage.
