Brown Clee Hill

At 540 metres, the highest hill in Shropshire and home to three Iron Age hillforts, of which only Nordy Bank survives intact. The univallate fort occupies a spur on the hill's western side, enclosing an oval area of 3.2 hectares (260 m by 200 m) probably dating to the late Bronze Age or early Iron Age, around 400 BC. The other two forts at Abdon Burf and Clee Burf were largely destroyed by dolerite quarrying in the 19th and 20th centuries. Nordy Bank is a scheduled monument within the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
