Viroconium Cornoviorum

Viroconium Cornoviorum was a major Roman city in what is now Wroxeter, Shropshire, England, located about 5 miles (8 km) east-south-east of Shrewsbury [1]. At its peak, it was the fourth-largest Roman settlement in Britain, serving as a civitas with a population exceeding 15,000 [1]. The settlement continued to thrive until the end of the 7th century or the beginning of the 8th century AD [1]. Today, extensive archaeological remains can still be seen at the site [1].
