Clayhanger, Devon

Near the hamlet of Clayhanger in Devon lies the site of a Roman fort at Cudmore Farm, overlooking a tributary of the River Batherm [1]. Considered the best-surviving Roman fort in southwest England, it is rectangular, approximately 100 metres across each side, with an 8-metre rampart and four outer ditches [1]. Roman tile and samian ware have been recovered [1]. Scheduled as a monument, the fort mostly lies in the parish of Bampton [1].
