Castles Camp

Castles Camp is a univallate Iron Age hillfort in the Taunton Deane district of Somerset, situated approximately 1.6 km west of the village of Bathealton. The fort is defined by a single line of earthwork defences typical of univallate hillforts, which generally date between the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age (8th-5th centuries BC). Roman coins have been found scattered around the camp's defences, suggesting activity or awareness of the site during the Roman period. The hillfort sits within a rich Somerset landscape containing numerous contemporary defensive settlements, including notable sites such as Cadbury Castle and Ham Hill.
