Brewer's Castle

Brewer's Castle is an Iron Age defended settlement in the Exmoor region of Somerset, situated on a steep, flat-topped knoll at the eastern end of Hawkridge Ridge Wood in the lower Barle Valley, about 3 km north-west of Dulverton. The pear-shaped enclosure follows the natural contours of the knoll, bounded by the River Barle on three sides and Dane's Brook to the south-west, enclosing just under 0.4 ha with internal dimensions of roughly 75 m by 62 m. Two entrances are located on the west and north-east sides. The site is traditionally associated with William Brewer, warden of the Royal Forest of Exmoor from 1216 to 1225.
