Elworthy Barrows

Elworthy Barrows is an unfinished Iron Age hillfort in the parish of Brompton Ralph, Somerset, covering 3.5 hectares. Despite its name, it is not a Bronze Age barrow but a defensive enclosure with bank and ditch, featuring an inturned entrance on the east side and causewayed effects on the north from incomplete construction. Ploughing in 1943 uncovered worked flint cores and leaf-shaped arrowheads, suggesting earlier Bronze Age activity at the site. The fort was enclosed in the 1830s and is designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
