Dowsborough Camp

An Iron Age univallate hillfort on the Quantock Hills near Nether Stowey, Somerset, believed to date from the first millennium BC. The oval-shaped fort encloses 7 acres with a single rampart and ditch, commanding spectacular views across the Severn Estuary. The main entrance faces east toward Nether Stowey, with a secondary opening to the northwest aligned with a ridgeway to Holford. A Bronze Age barrow inside the rampart suggests the site held significance for roughly 1,500 years before the fort was built. Excavations in 2021 revealed the ramparts were constructed in a single phase, though no diagnostic dating finds were recovered.
