Vescia

Vescia was an ancient fortified city of the Ausones, part of the Auruncan Pentapolis alongside Ausona, Minturnae, Sinuessa, and Suessa. Located perhaps on the left bank of the Garigliano river in the comuni of Cellole and Sessa Aurunca, the city was destroyed by Rome in 314 BC after the Aurunci allied with the Samnites. Unlike Suessa and Minturnae, which survived as Roman colonies, Vescia disappeared entirely. Pre-Roman wall remains and subterranean aqueducts on Monte Massico may mark its location.
