Rione Terra

Rione Terra is a historic quarter in Pozzuoli, Italy, occupying a tufa promontory above the Gulf of Pozzuoli in the Phlegraean Fields west of Naples [1]. Originally the acropolis of the Greek colony Dicearkia, it later became the citadel of the Roman port city Puteoli [1]. Today the excavated site reveals layers of Greek and Roman architecture, including massive carved pillars and defensive walls, and operates as an archaeological park open to visitors [2].
