Atella

Atella was an ancient Oscan city in Campania, located 20 km north of Naples [1]. One of the oldest cities in Campania, it was among the first to receive Roman citizenship (civitas) [1]. The Via Atellana crossed the city, connecting Cumae to the southwest and Capua to the northeast [1]. A section of this Roman road still exists today under the same name in Frattaminore [1]. Archaeological excavations have uncovered city walls, private houses, and the "garden of the Lucceii" [1]. It gave its name to the Fabula Atellana, a form of early Roman farcical comedy [2][3].
