Allifae

Allifae (modern Alife) was an ancient Samnite city in the Volturno valley at the foot of Monte Matese, Italy. It minted its own coinage in the 4th century BC and was conquered by Rome in 326 BC during the Second Samnite War. Rebuilt as a Roman colony with a rectangular grid plan, it preserves Late Republican walls of limestone opus incertum with square and circular towers, a theater, and the Thermae Herculis baths.
