Elyrus

Elyrus (or Elyros) was an ancient Cretan city situated between Cydonia and Lissus on the island's south coast, featuring the harbour of Syia located 60 stadia west of Poecilassus [1]. Pausanias records that the city existed in his time (2nd century AD) in the mountains of Crete [1]. At Delphi, Pausanias saw a bronze goat dedicated by the Elyrians, depicted nursing Phylacis and Phylander—mythological children of Apollo and the nymph Acacallis [1]. Elyrus appears in Hierocles' list of 21 Cretan cities, and its coins bear the image of a bee [1].
