Astale

Ancient harbour town on the north coast of Crete that served as the port for the inland city of Axus. The Stadiasmus Maris Magni places it 30 stadia from Amphimatrion and 300 stadia from Herakleion. Archaeological finds at the site span from the Middle Minoan period through the Roman era. Its remains lie near the modern village of Bali in the Mylopotamos municipality, Rethymno regional unit.
