Corycus, Crete

Corycus (or Korykos) was an ancient town in northwestern Crete, situated on the peninsula of the same name. [1] The settlement is mentioned by the geographer Ptolemy in his works. [1] The Roman poet Juvenal references a Corycian vessel, confirming the town's maritime significance in the classical period. [1] When Florentine traveler Cristoforo Buondelmonti visited Crete in 1415, he documented that remains of the ancient town still existed. [1]
