GreeceAxus (or Axos) was an ancient city on Crete, located inland on the slopes of Mount Ida with its harbour at Astale [1]. According to ancient sources, the city was situated on a river that gave its name to Axus, and Cyrenaean traditions claimed Battus, the founder of Cyrene, was the son of Phronimne, daughter of King Etearchus of Axus [2].
