Lissus, Crete

Lissus (or Lissos) was an ancient Cretan port city on the island's southern coast, situated between Syia and Calamyde [1]. The city served as one of the harbors for Elyrus [1]. Established during the Classical period, Lissus continued to thrive through Late Antiquity [1]. Based on inscriptions and coins from the 3rd century BCE, we know Lissus allied with King Magas of Cyrene and joined the League of Oreians — a koinon of Cretan cities including Syia, Poikilassos, Tarrha, Yrtakina and Elyrus [1]. The city possessed powerful trading and fishing fleets [1].
