Stilos - Archaeological Site

Stylos is an ancient Minoan settlement and cemetery near the modern village of Stylos in the Chania region of Crete, close to the important site of Aptera. Excavated by N. Platon and C. Davaras, the site yielded a circular ceramics kiln dating to Late Minoan IIIB -- the only kiln from this period known in western Crete. A four-room building and a Late Minoan tholos tomb were uncovered, along with tripod vessels, obsidian blades, grindstones, and loomweights. The settlement was occupied until its abandonment in LM IIIC (c. 1190-1070 BC).
