Kommos, Crete

Kommos is a Minoan harbour town in southern Crete [1]. After the Bronze Age, a sanctuary was constructed over the earlier settlement ruins [1] [2]. The partially excavated site yielded significant evidence of international trade and Bronze Age daily life [1] [2]. It lies north of Matala, adjacent to Kommos Beach, and is not open to the public but remains visible from the shore [1] [3].
