Oppidum of Manching

The Oppidum of Manching was a large Celtic proto-urban settlement at modern-day Manching, near Ingolstadt, in Bavaria, Germany[1]. Founded in the 3rd century BC, it existed until c. 50-30 BC[1]. During the late La Tène period, it reached its largest extent of 380 hectares, with 5,000 to 10,000 inhabitants within its 7.2 km walls[1]. It was one of the largest settlements north of the Alps[1]. The ancient name is unknown, but it is believed to have been the central site of the Celtic Vindelici tribe[1].
