Germany(1200-300 BC) A Celtic princely seat on a 668m conical hill near Bopfingen on the western edge of the Nordlinger Ries. First fortified during the Urnfield period, the Ipf reached its zenith in the late Hallstatt and early La Tene periods (6th-5th c. BC) when a 2.4 km rampart enclosed 30 hectares of slopes. Finds of Attic pottery, wine amphorae, and Mediterranean imports confirm far-reaching trade networks. Monumental burial mounds at nearby Osterholz and elite rectangular compounds provide further evidence of its role as a regional centre of power.
