Gilching

Gilching is a municipality in the Starnberg district of Bavaria, Germany, 22 km west of Munich, with archaeological evidence stretching back to the Bronze Age. Celtic tumuli and sacred groves (nemetons) are found in the nearby forest between Gilching and Schongeising, attesting to significant Iron Age settlement. The Roman road Via Julia, connecting Augsburg to Salzburg, runs through the town. The parish church of St. Vitus houses the Arnoldusglocke, one of Bavaria's oldest bells, dating to approximately 1200 AD.
