Heidetrank Oppidum

The Heidetrank Oppidum near Oberursel in the Taunus mountains is one of Europe's most important Celtic oppida, dating to the late La Tene period [1] [2]. Enclosed by a 10 km rampart with six gates and distinctive zangentor (pincer gates), it straddled both sides of the Heidetrankthal ravine [1] [3] [4]. Archaeological finds include agricultural tools, Celtic coins such as the Nauheim Quinarius likely minted on-site [1]. The settlement declined in the mid-1st century BC [1] [3].
