Kriemhildenstuhl

The Kriemhildenstuhl is a Roman quarry near Bad Durkheim in the Palatinate Forest, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, worked by the 22nd Legion stationed at Mogontiacum (Mainz) around 200 AD. Workers extracted quartzitic sandstone blocks up to three meters in length, along with capitals and cylindrical column stones. The quarry preserves numerous inscriptions including dedications to Jupiter and Emperor Septimius Severus, soldiers' names, and depictions of horses and human figures. It is one of the best-preserved Roman quarries north of the Alps and is now a protected monument owned by the Drachenfels Club.
