Ravenglass

Ravenglass was a Roman naval base in Cumbria, England, established during Emperor Hadrian's reign (AD 117-138) at the confluence of the rivers Esk, Mite, and Irt. Garrisoned by the First Cohort of the Aelia Classica, the fort controlled a strategic harbor and a crucial road into the Lake District. Its bath house walls survive to nearly 4 metres high, making it one of the best-preserved Roman structures in northern England. The fort formed part of the coastal defense chain linked to Hadrian's Wall and is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
