Blennerhasset and Torpenhow

Blennerhasset Roman Fort is a Scheduled Monument in Cumbria, England, situated on the Roman road between Old Carlisle and Papcastle at the crossing of the River Ellen. Identified from aerial photography in 1984, fieldwalking dated occupation to the late 1st or early 2nd century AD, contemporary with Stanegate frontier sites. The fort is protected by a triple ditch system and measures approximately 200 x 170 metres, covering about 3.4 hectares, with four gateways. Two Roman forts and three sections of Roman road are recorded at nearby Caermote within the same civil parish.
