Hardknott Roman Fort

Hardknott Roman Fort (Mediobogdum) is a Roman fortress on the western slope of the Hardknott Pass in Cumbria, England [1]. Built between 120 and 138 AD on a rocky spur, it was initially garrisoned by Cohors IV Delmatarum, an auxiliary unit recruited from the Dalmatian coast of modern Croatia [1]. The fort was abandoned roughly a decade after construction, then reoccupied around 200 AD and remained operational for much of the next two centuries [1].
