Great Aten Temple

The Great Temple of the Aten was a temple dedicated to the sun-disk deity Aten, located in the ancient city of Akhetaten (modern el-Amarna), Egypt [1]. Constructed during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten (r. 1353–1336 BC) of the 18th Dynasty, it served as the main place of worship of Aten, replacing the traditional cult of Amun-Ra [1]. The temple embodied Akhenaten's attempt to establish Aten as the sole deity of Egypt, with the pharaoh and his wife, Nefertiti, serving as intermediaries between the god and his people [1].
