Red Pyramid

The Red Pyramid at Dahshur, built by Pharaoh Sneferu between his 22nd and 29th regnal years (c. 2590-2575 BC), is Egypt's first successfully completed true pyramid and the third largest in the country. Standing 105 metres high with a base of 220 metres, it employs a consistent 43-degree slope angle that resolved the structural problems of the earlier Bent Pyramid. The pyramid contains three corbel-vaulted chambers and was originally clad in white Tura limestone, bearing the name "Sneferu Shines". Its modern name derives from the reddish hue of the exposed limestone core blocks.
