Qasr el-Sagha

Qasr el-Sagha is an ancient Egyptian temple complex located 8 km north of Lake Qarun in Fayoum Governorate, situated on a low protrusion at the foot of Gebel Qatarany in an abandoned, inhospitable region [1]. The structure, built of limestone and sandstone, contains seven chambers and covers approximately 180 square meters [1]. A Middle Kingdom cemetery lies to the south of the temple [1]. The temple's architectural plan suggests construction no later than the Middle Kingdom, with its limestone blocks fitted tightly together without mortar using oblique corner joints [1]. Scholars believe the temple was dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile deity worshipped in the Faiyum region [1].
