An enigmatic megalithic structure at Abydos, behind the Temple of Seti I, believed to be a cenotaph dating to Seti I's reign (c. 1294-1279 BC). Discovered by Flinders Petrie and Margaret Murray in 1902-1903, it features massive rose granite pillars weighing up to 100 tons transported from Aswan. The central chamber creates the effect of an island surrounded by water channels, symbolically representing the primeval mound of Osiris. Its construction style, using colossal undecorated blocks, echoes older structures like the Valley Temple of Khafre, fueling debate over whether it predates Seti's temple.
