Satellite Pyramid (to Bent Pyramid)

The Satellite Pyramid of the Bent Pyramid is a subsidiary structure located 55 metres south of the main Bent Pyramid at Dahshur, built during the reign of Pharaoh Sneferu (c. 2600 BC). Originally standing 26 metres high with a base length of 52.80 metres, it was constructed from thick limestone blocks arranged in horizontal rows and faced with fine Tura limestone. Some Egyptologists suggest it was built to house the pharaoh's ka (spiritual double). The interior contains a descending corridor at 34 degrees leading to a burial chamber via a short horizontal passage and an ascending corridor at 32.5 degrees. It was first opened to the public in 2019 after excavation in 1956.
