Pyramid of Amenemhat I

The Pyramid of Amenemhat I is an Egyptian burial structure built at el-Lisht by the founder of the Twelfth Dynasty, who moved the capital from Thebes to nearby Itj-tawy. Originally over 55 m high with a base of 83 m, the pyramid now stands at approximately 20 m due to poor construction, quarrying, and tomb robberies. Its core was made of small rough limestone blocks filled with sand, debris, and mudbrick, and notably reused blocks from earlier royal monuments bearing names of Khufu, Khafre, Unas, and Pepy. The subterranean burial chambers remain flooded by groundwater.
