Trajan's Bridge, designed by Apollodorus of Damascus and completed in 105 AD, was the first bridge across the lower Danube and one of the greatest feats of Roman engineering. Spanning approximately 1,135 m with 20 masonry piers supporting wooden arches, it served as a military supply route for the Dacian Wars. The wooden superstructure was dismantled by Emperor Hadrian to prevent barbarian crossings. Only foundation remnants on both riverbanks remain visible today during low water levels.
