Margus - City

Ancient Roman city of Margus situated on the right bank of the Great Morava River near its confluence with the Danube, in the Roman province of Moesia Superior [1] [2]. In late antiquity, Margus served as a crucial Danube river crossing point [3] [4]. Byzantine and Hunnic envoys met at Margus for treaty negotiations [1] [3] [5]. The city was captured and destroyed by the Huns in 441 AD [3] [5]. Archaeological excavations have revealed late antique baths and partially explored Roman, early Byzantine and Gepid necropolises [3] [6].
