Taliata

Taliata was a Roman fortified town and limes fort located at the Veliki Gradac locality near present-day Donji Milanovac in eastern Serbia, positioned 200-250 metres from the Danube's right bank [1]. The almost square fort measured 134×126 metres and was part of the Roman Moesian Limes frontier system [1]. Included in the Tabula Peutingeriana, the fort was originally built with wood and earth, later replaced by stone walls under Domitian in 87 AD ahead of his Dacian War [1]. Archaeological excavations revealed four main building periods, with earlier research conducted in 1958, 1960-1962, 1965, and larger-scale work in 1966 [1]. It is hypothesized that a smaller 50×40 metre fort at nearby Mali Gradac preceded the main fortification [1].
