Mediana

Mediana is an important archeological site from the late Roman period, located in the eastern suburb of the Serbian city of Niš [1]. It represents a luxurious residence with a highly organised economy [1]. Excavations have revealed a villa with peristyle, thermae, granary and water tower [1]. The residence dates to the reign of Constantine the Great, from 306 to 337 [1]. After Constantine's death in 337, the imperial residence in Mediana was used by several other emperors, either as a place of rest on their long journeys or during preparations for war [1]. Two Early Christian churches have been excavated, both built simultaneously sometime after 378 [1]. The first church was unearthed in 2000, when a Chi Rho monogram was found [1].
