Medvednjak

Medvednjak is a late Neolithic and early Eneolithic archaeological site in central Serbia, near Smederevska Palanka in the Sumadija region, dating to 4500-3500 BC. The settlement, located in the village of Grcac, belongs to the developed and ending phase of the Vinca culture, when the first evidence of metallurgy appeared. Together with neighboring Staro Selo near Selevac, the sites spread across 40-60 hectares. The most important artifacts, kept in the People's Museum in Smederevska Palanka, are anthropomorphic figurines of high artistic and artisan value, part of a collection that grew from 8 to 728 objects after their 1968 discovery.
