Tašmajdan Park

Tašmajdan Park, colloquially Tašmajdan or simply just Taš, is a public park and the surrounding urban neighborhood of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia [1]. Almost two millennia ago, Romans were extracting stone from the quarry located in the area for the building of Belgrade's predecessor, Singidunum and for many surviving sarcophagi from that period [1]. It was recorded that the Romans used this stone for the construction of the city's aqueduct in 69 AD [1]. The castrum of Singidunum had tall walls, built from the white Tašmajdan limestone [1]. The caves under Tašmajdan are 6 to 8 million years old [1]. Remains of the Roman aqueduct are found in the caves [1].
