Surčin

Surcin is a municipality in the eastern Syrmia region, 20 km west of Belgrade, with archaeological evidence spanning from the Stone Age through the Roman era. A Roman altar dedicated to Jupiter Optimus Maximus, dating to the second half of the 2nd century AD, was found built into the Church of St Petka, where it had been reused as spolia around 1770. Portable finds from the site suggest an early Roman settlement from the 1st century within the ager of Bassianae, and a second fragmented altar has also been identified from the area.
