Magh Slécht

Magh Slécht ("plain of prostrations") is a historic plain in the parish of Templeport, County Cavan, Ireland, renowned as the site of Crom Cruach, the chief idol of pre-Christian Ireland. The area of roughly 3 square miles contains over 80 ancient monuments, one of the densest concentrations in County Cavan. Crom Cruach was described as a gold-covered figure surrounded by twelve stone idols. A decorated stone found at nearby Killycluggin in 1921, broken near a Bronze Age stone circle, has been interpreted as the cult image. St. Patrick is traditionally credited with destroying the idol.
