Brownshill Dolmen

Brownshill Dolmen is a Neolithic portal tomb located 3 km east of Carlow in County Carlow, Ireland, built between 4000 and 3000 BC. Its granite capstone, measuring approximately 6.1 m long, 4.7 m wide, and up to 2 m thick, weighs an estimated 150 metric tons, making it reputedly the heaviest dolmen capstone in Europe. The burial chamber is flanked by large upright orthostats supporting the massive capstone, which was originally covered by an earthen mound with a gate stone blocking the entrance. Listed as a National Monument, it is also known as the Kernanstown Cromlech.
