Bocan Stone Circle

Bocan Stone Circle is a Bronze Age monument on Bocan Hill near the village of Culdaff on the Inishowen peninsula in County Donegal, dating to approximately 1500-2500 BC. The circle measures about 18.3 metres in diameter and originally contained around 30 stones, some up to 2 metres tall, though only seven remain standing today. Two tall stones appear to mark an entrance, with an alignment oriented on an east-west axis between Slieve Snaght and the Scottish island of Jura, visible on clear days. In 1816, excavators reported uncovering 'graves' with 'earthen urns' within the circle, indicating its use for cremation burials. The site is a protected National Monument situated in a heather-covered field.
