Meehambee Dolmen

The Meehambee Dolmen is a Neolithic portal tomb dating to approximately 3500 BC, located in the townland of Mihanboy near Athlone, County Roscommon, Ireland. Six upright megaliths originally supported a massive capstone estimated to weigh 24 tonnes. The rear portal stone has collapsed, causing the capstone to slide backward to its current 45-degree angle. Two stone axes were unearthed by local schoolchildren in the 1960s. Known historically as Leabaidh Eirn ("Eirn's bed") in the 1930s Schools' Folklore Collection, researchers believe it may be the burial site of an ancient king or clan chief.
