Magdalenenberg

Magdalenenberg is the largest Hallstatt-period tumulus in Central Europe, located near Villingen-Schwenningen in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Originally 10-12 m high and 104 m in diameter with a volume of 33,000 cubic meters, the central tomb of a Celtic prince was dendrochronologically dated to 616 BCE. A total of 126 secondary burials were placed concentrically around the central grave in the decades following. Excavations by Konrad Spindler (1970-1973) uncovered bronze daggers, an Iberian belt hook, and an amber necklace, evidencing Mediterranean trade connections.
