Temple of Claudius, Colchester

Built between 49 and 60 AD in Camulodunum (modern Colchester), the Temple of Claudius was a large octastyle temple dedicated to the deified Roman emperor Claudius [1]. It was the largest temple of its kind in Roman Britain and one of at least eight Roman-era pagan temples in Colchester [1]. Today, the temple's foundations form the base of the Norman Colchester Castle, making it potentially the earliest existing Roman stonework in Britain [1].
