The Warbanks

The Warbanks are ancient linear earthworks on the eastern boundary of Lawshall parish in Suffolk, extending into neighbouring Cockfield and Shimpling. Comprising two sections totalling approximately 760 metres, they were formerly a single defensive system crossed by a Roman road (now the A134). A late Bronze Age sword dated 800-600 BC was found at the site, along with a Roman bronze figurine of a female figure and Neolithic implements, suggesting occupation across multiple periods. Proposed for scheduling in 1978 and 1981 but never formally protected.
